Life

Life

A Poem by Jazzlyn B Barden

Life,

Something we live through,

Day after day.

But what does it mean?

Sometimes we get hurt,

Both mentally or physically.

A cut on the knee,

Or suffering a broken heart.

But even through the hurt,

And the bad,

There’s also happiness,

But there’s never happiness without pain.

Meaningless words.

They’re said day after day,

Such as ‘I love you,’

Or ‘This is the best day of my life.’

But what is love,

Or the best day of your life?

You don’t really know,

For time only tells.

Mistakes that have been made,

They’ve already been imprinted in time,

And the same stories will be told,

Throughout time after time.

All the good memories you’ve made,

They last longer than the mistakes.

The true memories,

You’ll never erase.

Laughing

Cheating,

Playing,

Hating.

Life is what you make of it,

And you only get one chance,

To live the life you love,

And love the life you live.

So make it your best

Congrats on placing in a contest with this poem. Your words are clear & resonate with the ups & downs we all go thru in life. I love your discussion of the platitudes we spout, but don't really think about that deeply. Very true to life. Same with the things that happen, which are imprinted forever. You've presented a balanced view of life, ending on an uplifting note.

Your thoughts come through clearly in your words and I didn't notice any spelling errors. Your message is so very true. I enjoyed reading it.
