Ocean Air

Ocean Air

A Poem by Jazzlyn B Barden

Walking past the ocean,

There is no current.

There’s no breeze,

And I’m alone,

it’s just me.

I think to myself,

Asking why I am here?

In the dead of the night,

Breathing in the ocean air.

The wind picked up,

And waves start to crash.

I get a thought,

And remember as to why I stand here.

I asked myself,

what it would be like to be the ocean.

To be able to crash like the waves,

And not be judged for it.

To be able to be free,

To cause happiness and give others memories,

that they’ll always be able to hold on to,

Forever and ever.

I would like to

Just be free.

To be calm with the sea,

Or drift with the wind.

As I think this,

A storm begins to brew,

As I stand in the ocean,

And the waves crash around me.

How did I get here?

Earlier I stood in the stand.

The thought of the ocean,

it pulled me in.

Maybe if I go deeper,

I could find out what it’d be;

To live in the ocean,

And let the current take me.

Closing my eyes,

I breathe in the scent,

The smell of fresh air,

And the salt mixed within.

I smile formed on my face,

And my thoughts took control.

I will stay in the ocean,

No one will care that I’m gone.

I will be all alone,

Maybe I’ll drown.

But I’ll be happy to know what it’s like,

To be like the ocean,

I’ll lay here and ride with the current.

Nothing better than a private beach alone.
"To be like the ocean,
I’ll lay here and ride with the current."
The sea showed us peace and can show us wild and dangerous dance. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Being a strong swimmer and a depressive I have often thought as I floated - starfish shaped on my back - face in the sun - how nice it would be to be 'taken' without struggle and to be with the sea forevermore.
The 'lost hours' when we don't know where our mind has went - were very well conveyed. Depression makes us feel worthless and unloved - it's the worst feeling
The self-fulfilling nature of the statement "I will be all alone" sounds like a F.U. to the world.
Another strong write from you.
