‘Shallow Soul’

When your need
Is only
As far as you
Can see

No matter the plea

Then you are blinded
Cannot see
The need
In others

You’ll never set
Yourself free
To be what you
Meant to be

As for self
There is no
Wealth
Of selfish
Flesh

Weak

To every test

Depending on others
Only when
Storms send
You flying
Your mind
Undenying
The self of
Your sufficiency

Nothing

But illiteracy

To the thoughts
Of your mind

Unable to
Define
What’s best
For this
Test

You just
Cannot rest

Your need is
Just greed
An unplanted seed

Unable to feed
The desires
Of your soul
Perhaps
Never your
Goal

Lost in the maze
Becoming a haze

Pretending all well
But
You’re
Hidden
Inside that shell

No wishing well
Or fortune tell
Will ease
The pain

Nothing

To gain -

Until
Silent you
Remain
Stop playing
This game

Inside you must
Seek
Stop all the
‘Clever ‘ words
You speak-

Then only you’ll
Find-
True worth
And
A sound
Mind.

very deep is the answer... although when I read these words, I am reminded of a rap kind of flow and rhythm... I am also, and perhaps even more so aware that some of what is contained here is akin to my own zen beliefs..... enlightenment is around the corner, am just not sure which corner...... Neville

Your poem reminded me of what I heard a wise man once tell me. "Seeing your own bullshit is true 20/20 vision." It takes courage to look within, see yourself for who you are (and who you're not), and realize life's greatest treasures lie deeper than what we see and desire, especially material possessions. We usually stay in the "shallow" waters because we're too scared to go beyond. Insightful, thought-provoking piece, Kelly.

Your words are almost like a beating drum, with each stroke you pound harder and harder yet people act like they can't even hear. Many chose to live behind this facade of knowing it all yet they know nothing and it's sad that they might never even be listening.

Yes you are right - sadly we’ll never know why- they know why but won’t admit to the truth living a lie - then judging others- sad but true- all have life to live hopefully they see the light we all have a different path - I just wish people would open their eyes ears and heart seek truth- thankyou🌹
