Thoughts of a Troubled Youth

Thoughts of a Troubled Youth

A Poem by Natasha Leanne

To be uncertain,

To laugh in the face of danger,

To speak not in fear,

But in rage,

That is an adventure.

To love once,

But not to love always,

To sob for days on end over a stolen heart,

To be desperate,

But still show unwillingness,

That is a dramatic episode.

To bleed for a war of savior,

To die without shame,

To survive through the wreckage,

And live with the pain,

That is a journey.

To be the real me,

To rise up from rock bottom,

To defeat depressed ideas,

To deal with the problems of a troubled youth,

That is an accomplishment.

Very uplifting. I liked the pattern and think you employ it well here.
One recommendation: change line 2 in stanza 4 from "To rise up from rock bottom" to instead "To rise from rock bottom". When you use less words it puts a greater emphasis on the words you have. "rise up" is redundant and "rise" is strong enough to stand on its own.

This poem is simply... stunning. You've written a poem that everyone can identify with. We all have trouble being ourselves, and yes, it is an accomplishment when we do this. I actually was never truly myself until I went to PCC, a local summer program that helps you break out of your shell. Thankyou for writing a poem that really captures what we PCCers call PCC spirit. It really means a lot to me to read something like this. Beautifully written!!!
