Smoke Signals

Smoke Signals

A Poem by Bad bunny

___Smoke Signals___

The mills last gasp… billows down dirge

Of steel workers widows

Whispers draw cast heroes blast urge

Final furnace breakout

Bright bars last bitter bound beam to

Bolt Barring foundry floor

Firing folklore & family

Sends scattered souls severed

Union smelting pot brothers mass

 Bound aught for other burgs

Melting steel hearts holding hallow

The Steelers emblem home

As the mills died never the pride

Of men that wrought iron

Long shot Steelers fought like kin

Town and team unify

not just Steel....but so much else in danger of becoming extinct...Coal mines...etc.
those who have made a living doing one thing all their lives...and then to lose that...intensely sad.
I visited farmers in Vermont several years back, ones i knew as a kid...their dads were farming then and making a really good living...now the sons are barely scraping by but continue the tradition...or try to.

Manufacturing, shutting down. We also have problems with steel. It is on its last legs over here. A sign of the times as old industries give way. Others hopefully will replace what has gone, but the devastation is hard to contemplate. Whole communities without breadwinners.Everyone and everything suffers but they are totally united in that suffering. So much emotion I felt reading these words. Remembering our miners and the loss of coal, the car manufacturing and now steel. Sad times.

Tough life, my parents were factory workers. It wasn't easy.
But the people that worked there, not including management, were like a tight family.

Well done, Bunny. As a child of the "Rust Belt" across the river from Detroit, the demise of the steel industry has been painful to watch. USS still has its foundries on Zug Island though, so all is not lost.

P.S. I checked out your website and I must say you have a very interesting business.

Thank you Aurora :) I love it when you say those words it tingles the bunny
Here in the UK we have watched such demise taking place in many industries. Steel, what is left of it, is in foreign hands and is struggling to stay afloat. You have injected many steel making words and phrases which give provenance to this empassioned piece.

Indeed so BB. There have been similar issues in the North of England and in Southern Wales.

Great tribute to the men of steel in every way. There a couple of very cool Steelers bars here in Phoenix. Die hard fans for sure. Never been to Pittsburgh but would really like to visit someday. Awesome BB
