A friend tells me I'm loved
And shows it through devotion
A friend stands with me giving me courage to rise above
Shame, degradation, and every negative emotion

A friend offers a listening ear
And shows compassionate care
A friend sees the strength underneath my fear
Making time to be there

A friend puts their arm around me
When my world comes crashing down
A friend doesn't judge or speak hypocrisy
Rather makes a smile out of my frown

A friend invests in who I am
Earning my trust in both word and action
A friend embraces me and helps me to stand
Elevating me into new growth and self-expansion

So true! A couple of my gay men friends inspired this one. A dear one, who inspired my Soulmate piece, lost many hours of sleep--talking cross-country on the phone with me for 2 hours 40 minutes--when I was having an emotional night. The other gave me undivided attention during a lengthy heart-to-heart about a recent traumatic event and then watched my back so I could go out and avoid a recent dangerous mistake. I have several other incredible friends too--I'm very lucky--especially since I just went through cutting out several "friends" from my life.

I enjoyed the rhyming here and the message. A friend in short follows the Golden Rule, and is capable of feeling normal emotional moods in a timely way. One of these moods is the social binding mood of love. Unfortunately some people have spontaneous mood swings for various psychological reasons that gum everything up, and we must be understanding enough of such people to give them enough space to work out their hang-ups when they need it. No one's perfect, and they know they have a problem. I’ve met my share of mood swinging people who are as volatile as nitro, and they have no friends coz they scare ‘em all off.
