Are You Still Awake?

Are You Still Awake?

A Poem by Dominik D. Ravens
"

I can't sleep.

"
Are you there?
Yes, you.
Thank goodness.
It doesn't seem fair,
Being here,
By myself,
Talking to myself,
Walking with myself,
Gawking at myself.
It just isn't fair.
And what is worse is,
No one seems to care.
No one seems to dare.
Ignore me,
Don't stare,
For I am here,
And you are there.
I do not belong beside you.
Though I must,
Though unjust,
I must simply sit by you.
Back turned,
You know,
I cry too.

I am not just here alone because I chose to be.
The problem however,
Is not you or me,
But those that made us who we are,
The ones that decided,
That we are,
In fact,
Divided,
And tore apart our connections,
In one whole piece,
And not sections.
We blame them because we want someone to blame.
We want to point our fingers,
To call a name,
But no matter what we do,
It's still the same.

Are you still open?
Is the door still ajar?
Please tell me you are.
The only one I have here is the tiny North star,
But even he doesn't gaze upon my wilted silhouette,
As it sobs relentlessly above a china tea set.
I cry here because though there is plenty,
I have no one to drink with,
No one to mend me,
No one at least,
But you,
My release.
My phantom across the evening sky.
My love when hatred is ever so nigh.
Through the night and bleak fright,
The snow and uneasy flight,
Are you here, love?
Are you still holding my hand?
Will you hold it forever,
Even though you could still let it go?
You still can.
You could run away and leave forever,
But does my heart still hold you back?
Is there something I am missing?
Is it something that I lack?

Are you still awake?
Will you be there through my heartbreak?
Would you give me anything you dare to take?
Will your warmth be real,
Unconditional,
Or fake?

Please tell me,
For I can't sleep.
I am unbearably,
So terribly,
Lonely.
I do not want to sit here alone,
Sipping china tea.
Will you stay here all night with me?
Just tonight,
Will you do as I please?
You are the only one,
Who can put me at ease.

Will you?
Hello?
Are you still awake?
If you are real,
Then don't leave me to deal,
With this tiny heart,
That is easy to break.
Are you still awake?

Will you hold me,
For my sake?

Author's Note

Dominik D. Ravens
I asked someone if they were still awake because I wanted to talk to him and thought about doing this since I used to ask someone that same question out of desperate loneliness and sadness.
