Why?

This is why I write.

I'm sure some of you sit there,

your faces tinted by the dim glow of a screen

wondering

"Why does he waste his time? 

Writing words

for no reason

other then to do just that?"

To which I reply

"Because I can.

Because with these words

I can say what I wish. 

Speak all that I may.

Because truly - 

there is no greater freedom

than words."

This gave me a great deal of amusement while reading... Because sadly it's true. I do tend to think that but I write anyway because I can, as you stated. I loved the ending also because words are the ultimate escape if used correctly.
