`Of Death`

`Of Death`

A Poem by Fran Marie

impaired thoughts override reality
ghosts of illusion.. one by one
their black shadowy forms float past
as I sit in depths of despair
           a world of emptiness, devoid
                    of color
                     without warmth
and I, so alone
with dilated pupils
seeing.. only death
                     waiting

hearing .. screams of silence
 reluctantly, it's
 sounds of death's wind
                         blowing

smelling..the stench
of death's decay
with bony fingers
                          reaching

touching..the air,feeling
the darkness
restless souls from the dark abyss
                             craving

tasting..bitterness seeps
 into my marrow
 nauseating in dizziness
                              sinking

a dark room occupies my mind
   lifeless glaze...fills sleepless eyes
upon mirror's gaze
it's the  reflection of a dying spirit
and the only tune left is that of death

Well Fran Marie, this is a powerful and incredibly sad poem: sad if you are right that death is a wall. But for what it's worth, as a young agnostic, I learned (the hard way) 47 years ago that death is actually just a door-- but what world it may lead to I cannot say. You see, the spirit-- the soul-- cannot die because it exists outside what we call time, without beginning or end, a sort of eternal present/moment. And trust me, this has not simplified my life-- things were much simpler when I was a materialist/atheist/nihilist, because now I know that EVERYTHING matters and each of us is continually weaving Karma.

I really enjoyed your writing style in this poem. You created beauty out of darkness and it is very captivating. Very well written.

Many thanks for reviewing my work...
It took awhile for my page to load and so I sat looking at your accompanying photo with anticipation. It is a great photo but the write most certainly outshone it ... or rather out creep'd it ... a very eerie write crafted with skill and art. Brava.

Thanks for reading Pryde, I so appreciate it;
I like this, because it describes that dying inside feeling, and brings it outside of itself to "real" death. I love the image too -- very creepy and effective.

Wow, this sounds like it was inspired by sitting in a psychomanteum. The "black shadowy forms" makes me think of shadow people or demons. I love this dark side stuff. Nicely stylized.

Your welcome!
this is intensely sad. and reminds me of the Holocaust and what some may have written about the feeling of waiting for death....had they had pen and paper...
