love~a four letter word

love~a four letter word

A Poem by Fran Marie

sometimes love bites
           and love's bite is bitter
tears from eyes one cries
             and the sadden heart
                                 does wither

she told him it was just a fling
He thought that surely she did jest
                       he gave her everything
                                 and did

                                      his very best

but she never promised anything
                  not love, nor caring so
nor did she ask for stars or moon
                               but oh

                                   he loved her so

        he was a broken man
wearing his heart on his sleeve
she told him to return no more
                       and not so politely

                                      to Just Leave!

A pleasing shape, rhythm and rhyme to this poem. It speaks for so many uneven affairs, but moreso it shows that women too are just as capable of "having their cake and eat it" as the saying goes - something which many conventional folk tend to think a moral fault of men only. Very wrong. And sex is often a boundary which, when crossed, true feelings show themselves and they are not always pretty...!
"Sometimes love bites".... I like that.
Good write, FM.

Thanks Devons, so much for reading..glad you enjoyed..
yes, it can have such bitter endings...and many expletives worn on that sleeve of sadness and angst.

really like the formatting of this one...matches perfectly to the theme..each stanza withering down to a couple words..
