Black, White and Read

Black, White and Read

A Poem by Fran Marie

I read each line
my mind trying, trying
to comprehend, as the
tears rolled from my
eyes and stained the
white parchment

Smearing black Ink
began running down
the paper, streaking
as my black mascara
blacken my cheeks, now
devoid of a rosy blush worn
just this morning before
opening your letter

Were you sure you
meant to say it was over?
We, you and me?
Is that how you would like it?

This daunting news that you
found another to take my place
crushed me.
After all, we appeared to be the
perfect pair~If they only knew!

Stunned! No, make that shocked!
How could this be?
You replaced moi with someone new?

Yet, there it was in
Black and White!
if you only knew how these words
broke my heart as I read it over and over again

Now the black night draws near, dear
and a dark shadowy feeling is upon me.
your warmth~ can no longer be felt.

Oh, this is amazing. I can really feel the pain throbbing through this piece as the narrator learns that her lover has chosen someone else . . . the worst nightmare . . . I am simply amazed by this piece and I thank you so much for entering it in my contest.
