Nowhere Fast

Nowhere Fast

A Poem by Fran Marie

Gone are the days when life was simple and pleasant.

When neighbors sat on front porches sipping sweet tea

and lemonade on hot summer days, recalling memories and spinning

yarns with smiles upon their faces as bright as the afternoon sun itself.

Gone are the times when life seemed so clear, understanding more or less

who people were and what they stood for with a strong voice in the matter.

Gone are those same voices which sang life's sweet song in melodic harmony

sharing in their fellowman's hardships, happiness, failures and fortunes

Now our lonely souls have grown distant, unfriendly;building fences

and reaping confusion. Now  we exist to satisfy our own selfish greed.

People pretending to care with words that do not match actions

each one putting themselves first in a cold- gray world going nowhere fast

the poem has such a grey feel, it's imagery subdued; its message balanced with pragmatisim and impending loss. well done. tovli

Wow, this is disheartening...perhaps because it is very true. A beautiful thought provoking piece, thanks for sharing!
