`Barefoot Courtisan`

`Barefoot Courtisan`

A Poem by Fran Marie

geisha girl, lotus pearl
zen gardens float on fronds of ferns
          and green peacock feathers

blending colors of cherry blossoms and rainbows
but how does your garden flow?

geisha girl, lotus pearl
   bleeding into blue cracked teacups
empty teardrops tainted in black mascara

on white kabuki art drawn masks
porceline in a garden cannot grow

geisha girl, lotus pearl
locked  up dreams  wrapped too tight
in dyed kimonos and dainty tea cakes

breaking inside fleeting beauty
a dying, colorless heart of a barefoot courtisan

I've always had a fascination with Geishas and your poem is an absolute work of art-phenomenal read rich with beauty and intrigue. This is going in my favorites because the richness of the words, how you painted the picture is absolutely breathtaking. Glorious poem my dear.

Barefoot Courtisan shows us a picture of geisha.
I am curious to know more about them.
Very nice poem.

beautiful and delicate imagery, I felt as if I had to read gently or else the weight of my eyes would crack the poem. I loved the way the speaker addressed the girl, "geisha girl, lotus pearl"

The poem is beautiful. Your description open up good vision of a beautiful place.
"geisha girl, lotus pearl
bleeding into blue cracked teacups
empty teardrops tainted in black mascara"
I like the questions raised by the outstanding poetry.

What I hear in this, Fran, is the eternal tragedy of the woman who subverts her true self, who creates an image that she believes another craves, and the sadness that accompanies that decision. A tragedy not limited to Japanese women, need I add?

Quite a deep and clever write. Very good use of poetic language, and the poem has a nice flow to it. Well done.
