cerebral shooting panes

cerebral shooting panes

A Poem by Freder Fredersen (aka Grady)

cerebral shooting panes

machete thumps bone as the clock ticks suck the corn syrup blood
from a paper Mache piñata effigy of faith without constant cynical interludes
that dance on the remains of the authentic white horse of fabled salvation
said to sanitize the savage soul via sanguine sacrifice and sanctimonious strain

believe you know
know you believe
no one believes you
know anything at all

backwashed vespers drip scarred moon faces that scream profanities
as they illuminate cryptic pictures that comet past the half rolled down window
of a blood-colored vessel mid thrombosis; cerebral shooting pains that drive
victory’s victims to chase dragons and deities to their respective heavens and hells

taken for giving
given for taking
forgiveness forsaking
all others but you

answers rot beneath the dust beneath the sweaty bed beneath the leaky roof,
and the questioner hop-scotches figure eights around his ignored nuclei
with watery eyes and semen-caked hands and a mouth full of sugar and opiates
that overstate underwhelming stimuli that pop from every box left unchecked

remorseless sin
sinless remorse
unreason morphed
into a source of revenue
and, of course,
a shifty sense of eternal safety
stashed beyond stars, scars and strife
