THE PROFANE AND THE SACRED

THE PROFANE AND THE SACRED

A Poem by Glen Fitch
"

"You green s**t" Koko, * "Dragons of Eden" Carl Sagan

"

         My father said
         he knew he loved me
         when he volunteered
         for my first diaper change.
         It wasn't something done
         by men back then.
"Your poop was green and gooey,
         really strange."
         All life seems one long,
         time consuming quest to separate
the good things from the bad.
         We hoard the precious
         and discard the rest.
If we are not that other
         we are glad.
         Alas, "s**t happens"
         much to our dismay.
         We often panic
         trying to stay calm.
         We search in vain
         to find some other way.
         But ask a farmer,
         artist,
         healer,
         mom:
         In life
there is no me or you or it.
         'Cause everything is sacred,
         even s**t.
