Black Coffee

Black Coffee

A Poem by Gabrielle Linch

Bitter

       coffee

    stained

   every

           word that

                  passed pale lips.

                         Anger heated the

          water of sweetened

tears. The roasted

scent of regret poured

like french vanilla

from steaming eyes.

Do not tempt a boiling pot, for that boiling pot

will over heat. And the consequences of condensation will

melt into reality. Once the mug of life cracks, sugar will    not

mend it. Cream will not undo the sour residue from worn     out

taste buds. The coffee will stay bitter for all eternity. And      no-

thing, absolutely nothing will be able to change that taste       of

bitterness that lingers behind. It will dance on the tongue      as

if a ballerina. That single caffeinated thought burns in the     ba-

ck of the mind, withdrawn and jittery from deprivation.  The

whole batch is ruined with blistering words.

Cute...aside from the graphic...I enjoyed the concept of the cup of coffee being symbolic for a deeper pain. Nice ( : O )

Very good layout, the meter holds up to lyric. Curious if you meant "passed" instead of "past" and that is the wonder of poetry. If you mean that or not, even as a grammatical error it mails this down in my memory. Memorable piece.

LOVED THIS. Everything about it, just so descriptive and real without being too moody. Awesome! I rated this thing a 95/100!

A shape poem which takes a metaphor and bends it into the understanding of human emotions gone wrong.
