A Murdered Life

A Murdered Life

A Poem by Gaia Octavia

Gone is the girl
I used to know
replaced by a fuse
impatient to blow

Breathing through darkness
to calm my distress
programmed to fight,
I must learn to suppress

Anxious and tired
of thoughts in my head
that break me and cause me
to stay in my bed

Corrupted so young
I will never be free
I was never allowed
to truly be me

I just came across this one- I have to say I'm impressed. You can be quite direct, but this was something else. Simultaneously opaque and revealing, I felt intrigued and rewarded both.
As always, the dichotomy of a simple rhyme scheme and a topic with gravitas is, for me, a compelling combination.
Thanks for this.
Z.

Thanks! :-)
Speaks volumes about living through pain and how it changes you. A little short, but still effective
