Flows Of A Raven

Flows Of A Raven

A Poem by Gary McDonald

You are my heroine, for all of time
the one for which heart's truth cannot hide.
I once wished that the sapphire beyond the clouds
could be tasted by my ignoble lips,
but with the flows of a raven's flight
that held the slender frame of divine sketches,
I saw your face, and at once sought nothing more.
As the mind of depth engraved upon me
for the trail of wisdoms tongue remained.
So today, as words we shared now part us,
I hold your lips in this most fierce embrace,
to bind the heart's, now of distance too great.
For I know that the ebony of your skin and
the chestnuts of your eyes will find me.
Tonight I will lay beneath the shards
of a jealous sky, to wait for you.

Author's Note

This was something of a parting gift for my (now ex) girlfriend, after she had to move up north.
Also, thank you Lynne, you really helped ease me through the pain afterwards.

This has to be the thank-you gift of all times, mainly because in its own way, it isn't a goodbye but a forever memory .. it's very beautiful in spite of it being veiled with sadness. My thoughts are that she'll hold these words in her heart for a long, long time, maybe forever, who knows.

Its always a sad thing to see someone you love go away.
Your words used are very articulate, and I find them wonderfully enjoyable to read. by far of all the reviews and things ive read on this site tonight, I have enjoyed this quite alot.

this is beautiful and deep . . . when we are given love (even for a short duration) it is better to love deeply and let go when we must

This is really mature and graceful way to part... letting them know you will keep them close with all they taught your mind and heart... very beautifully melancholy.

This is a beautiful goodbye, and tear-filled I'm sure. Your use of vocabulary is wonderful and as always, your style strikes me. It has such a sentiment of days passed. There's not much else I can say that others haven't.

What a beautiful parting gift. One that will no doubt remain in her heart forever. It is very heartfelt and touching. You have several great lines in this piece. I really liked:

'I saw your face, and at once sought nothing more.'

and

'Tonight I will lay beneath the shards
of a jealous sky, to wait for you.'

They show such a deep poetic heart.

Man, I hate to give advice, when I know so little of the story, but it sounds like you are in love with this girl and all that is keeping you apart is the distance of your beings, not the distance of your hearts. Which is something love is willing to risk the for findings of hearts to be whole. I feel bad for the both of you and hope you can find a way for your souls to be as one again. Great piece, as you can tell you have invoked so much emotion in me.
RLG,
Tommy
