Wise Men So Wise

Wise Men So Wise

A Poem by Devons

And he said:
“That girl, on the screen -
Looks like your Ex..”
Yes, she did. Yes, she did.
..Remember the sex!
He said:
“Yeah, she was all right.”
And: “You know, one day
you’ll look back
and say -
--Why did I ever leave THAT?!!
Yes, I did. Yes, I did.
…Curiosity Kills Cat!
A psycho, a child-b***h
A prison, a blanket
A smotherer
A motherer
A crier
A whiner
A piner
A shiner, a beauty
A charmer
A dream
A lover, a loser
And not all it may seem
And he’s right, that’s a fact
I’d still wish her back
When one day I’m dozing
And rocking and aging
And recalling old flames
And my mind playing games
With rose-tinted loneliness
And weak-hearted laziness
And all for the love ---

Of times gone by…

Why are wise men so wise?
(and they speak truth with spirit)
when deep down
inside
no one really wants to hear it.

This was delightful reading. It seemed so fast paced, I found myself rushing through it the first read, forced myself to slow down and read it twice more. It has a cocky appeal to it, with a rawness in reminiscing over past loves that I thought was very unique and ingeniously expressed. Especially loved the ending. Interesting rhetoric, it's true, if the truth is brutal (and often times it is) no one really wants to hear it! Fantastic write, brazen and free. Loved it. ;)

This is really well written. I really enjoyed reading it. I dont think ive ever read about a man reminicing that felt so realistic.

I think you've just described every women I've ever been with!

This work is very relatable for any guy. It's funny, because men when they reminisce about "old flames" really, they first think back on the sex. "Pigs!" I could hear women snarl, but tis true.

When men are lying in bed alone at night, they don't have flashbacks about that time they visited disneyland.

A truly wise man never speaks! He lets his actions speak for him. but when it comes to a hot mama, whoa, the jaw works in a highly motivated manner.

Oh the cutting British humour! It shines forth even when you're not trying.
I've always enjoyed the rapport of the Poms and the bloody Irish.
Nice galloping prose with a suitable note of self deprecation to conclude.

nice - a great voice displayed in this one - no one cares what the wise have to say - generally as they're not talking to themselves - thus it is lost on fickle ears - I also really like the structure and form of the piece - the opening dialogue and then into what I always call a spiral rhyme - where it goes faster and faster (smartly helped by the lack of breaks) and they all kind of melt into each other - manic almost - like if watching on stage where someone slowly slips into madness - rap like - motherer/smotherer - that's a fact/wish her back - recalling old flames/playing games - but enough about the rhymes - which I enjoyed - a great piece! nice!
