Unsung Heros

Unsung Heros

A Poem by STEVE LAVERDIERE

Long is the standing, the waiting and fear
As we await our orders to advance
Charge is the word that brings us alive
Leaving our wounded and dying be hind in our dust
Yes off into battle we go once again
No fear do we feel as we pray for the end
Into the night we fight and we bleed
The gunpowder we absorb deep in our flesh
Then its all over in the blink of an eye
As the sun brightens our way
Our anger has faded
Our evil has fled
Now is the time we tend to our dead
Collecting our wounded
That we left behind
For now that its over we have the time
A young privet is wounded a bullet I guess
He follows his orders as best as he can
A base camp is made and they tend to his wounds
He tries not to think of those left to their doom
We fight to the death for the weak and the strong
Do not try to judge us for the things that we do
We all have our orders
That we follow them through
Yes we are just soldiers
So proud in the fight
But when its all over
We can't sleep at night
We shall return home in the end
To a place that's not ready
To except, understand or comprehend
We suffer alone in the darkness with only our pain
