Loneliness

Loneliness

Loneliness

By

J.M. Gershom

I lay in bed with

No one but countless

Thoughts of lonely

Hope.

My mind won’t let

It rest and

My heart stokes

The flames that

Scorches the very

Depths of my being.

I think of her

Constantly and constantly

I drink to forget.

No, not forget, but

To blur the vision

In my mind’s eye.

To try and douse that

Bonfire in my vast

And pathetic soul.

I wish I could purge

Myself  of her,

Her beauty,

Her scent,

Her voice,

Her warmth,

Her taste.

No, I have never

Experienced such ripe

Fruit. I only taste

The last swig of

Whiskey

From a bottle that

Now resembles me.

Empty.

Wow, talk about depth! That really went into detail and the last line really said it all. Trying to forget about someone you have a crush on is one thing, but trying to forget a past love is torture. There are so many feelings involved it's like a constant routine that doesn't go away easily. Sorry to see your still hurting but glad to see you've got the dtrength to stay away from the bottle. Great poem from the soul.
