The book of life

The book of life

A Poem by Kevin Horsley

About love and loss..what else is such a powerful motivator!

The book of life

I started to read the book of life

and found

a dog eared page

with a phone number

I called the number

met you

and we lived in tandem

reading chapters together

Enjoying each nuance

and idiosyncrasy

and experience together

We were happy

But the story got rough

and difficult

the pages didn't turn

as quickly as before

So I stopped reading

and thought

you had stopped too

I was wrong

You skipped ahead

and found

the very end of our story

and marked the page

I began reading it again

I struggled

but I was in love

and the effort was worth it

Eventually I reached the page

dog eared

just like that other

from so many chapters before

It spelled the end

I cried

and I tried my hardest

to re-write the future

But my version of the story

wasn't enough

We parted and you moved on

and the story of life continues.

Some stories don't have happy endings. I like how you create a interesting friendship. Books can open doors to many things. Thank you for the excellent poem.
