Katrina - Remembered

Katrina - Remembered

A recollection of Hurricane Katrina and effects 5 years ago this week

"

Katrina " Remembered

(this is not meant to be a complete and

all encompassing recall cause and effect, but

merly a tribute and recollection.)

It's been 5 years now since this

evil b***h storm pounded the southern

US coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the

dammage recorded in the states of

Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Delivering the most devestation in terms

of dollars in recorded history, 81 BILLION,

and the second most recorded loss of life

from the actual storm and subsequent flooding.

1,836 human beings lost their life. Thousands

more lost their homes, their property, their history,

their posessions, their way of life.

Days passed leaving many stranded without

food, water, medical supplies and help.

Sanitation was non-exsitant and crime ran rampant

throughout the great beatiful city of New Orleans,

as tempers and patience and hope wore thin for

these poor and desperate people.

Government officials at all levels were

found to be amazingly inept in dealing with

the situation. Some of the comments made

by our highest officials of this great country,

were stupifying and incredulous, while their

inability to act, is to this day horrifying

as pictures and videos are now being replayed

over our video monitors. Watching these

replays brings tears to my eyes, and anger

to my mind, how these men, women, children,

elderly, sick, and even animals were shown such little

respect by the federal agencies. Thank GOD for the

rescue police, firemen, military helicopter pilots

who did yeoman work considering their lack

of support by the government until days had passed.

I do not know the numbers, but I feel quite

confident that there are still thousands of people

who are still being effected today, and have yet

to fully recover their assets and pride that they

lost to this vicious unforgiving storm and events.

Let us say a prayer for these individuals, that they

someday will recover their physical, mental and

spiritual losses as a result of this horrific event,

and hopefully history will not repeat itself and

allow this sort of dissaster and shame to once again

happen to the citizens of this beautiful country.

Everyone complains about the weather, but no one Does any thing about it.
The disaster you speak of is one of many you can expect.
Unfortunately, the human element you speak of, or rather the lack thereof, is likely to increase exponentially as the planet runs out of food.......

Who is too blame?
We have to look in the mirror for that one.

Thank you just saying how you Really feel.
We are all getting so good at that here in the Cafe!

Finally, it is refreshing to notice some of us are keeping tabs on some of the bullshit. You will regret it probably, as your worst suspicions become evident, but Knowledge Is Power.

I am going to stick to your funny poems from now on.

Unnecessary. You should not apologize for anything you're about to post. Poetry is a reflection of ones thoughts and should not have to be justified, yes? That being said, the reflections are quite touching.

I once heard that a ritual of grief helps the healing process following such tragedy. This is an beautiful tribute. Katrina, even if a terrible event, should never be forgotten. Not because it was terrible, but because the lives and souls that were lost, and those that were saved, must always be cherished. Wonderful work:)

A horrific dissaster that will not be forgotten

The beginning was a bit rushed. Imagine a young kid telling his mom the story all in one breath. It works though. I don't think N.O. will ever fully recover. There is no national interest in reviving it. (If) By the time they do it will be hit again. Nice write.

Easy to spend 400 billions on contracts for equipment for war and bullets for war. A lot went wrong in the care of people. Sometime I wonder how the people who support have great desire to help got the job? The story is true in your words. In my lifetime the saddest thing done to our USA citizens. Thank you for the memory.

Well said Gomer, Im with you on this
Although it is not something that you want to remember, And thanks for the reminder of saying a prayer. Think prayer should be a daily routine and on top that list we should pray for this country and leaders.
Nice read, Gomer
