I used to be a Dreamer

I used to be a Dreamer

A Poem by Gomer LePoet

I used to be a Dreamer

I used to be a dreamer

but somehow I let life get in my way

age, gravity and pace of the world

seemed to take that sparkle away

a pilot a healer a priest a hero

were just some of my dreams

the word on the street is you can do it

but you can't is more likely it seems

if it seems that I am depressed

a realist is more to my way

too many days just chasing my tail

really not much more I can say

Dreams do not always come true. I have wanted to do so many things and not have put the time and effort into making them happen. I have been called a dreamer but I am a huge realist. What can I say? This was a wonderful piece.

This has such a sting of reality, so beautifully captured in your words.

when we slip off out of our dreams; this waking life drenches reality and kills our passion; as realistically stated here...

right now this poem is like shouting at me, because i have just found out i can't make one of my dreams (fortunately not the biggest one !!) come true :(
very well written, going to add it to my favourite ones :)

So true. Nice way to explain how many of us feel. At we have music to get us through:)

This is really lovely albeit sad. One small point - I feel it would read better saying "but somehow I let life get in my way". It may just be a typo. That aside, I think this is a good poem and my favourite line is "the word on the street is you can do it but you can't is more likely it seems". Great. Thank you.

But the good things is..is that you can TRY
Depression hits all of us...I know this all to well...but we have to muster up enough will to push through...and hope we come out on the other side a better person...stronger person..

I know the feeling of this poem. I was going to do great things. I learn with old age. My grandchildren need my laughter and knowledge. Us old timers must become the teacher and kind words needed. I remember my Grandfather telling me when I failed when I was young. "It is Okay John. There are good days and bad days. remember if you need help. We are here." We need men like you. Thank you for the excellent poem.
