Serenity

Serenity

A Poem by Beatrice Boyle (Grandma Bea)
"

Life...like nature, has it's own seasons, and age, as in nature, culminates in a winding down of the tumultuos storms of spring and summer, into a welcoming acceptance of a quieter, intropective phase of our life, which...like the snow, holds a beauty of

"

Serenity

It is the winter of my life

Spring will not

Come this way again

The rose has lost its petals

They lie decaying in the rain

The trees have shed their leaves

The sap is lying low

Stark branches wailing in the wind

Weighted down by drifting snow

But there is beauty in the snow

Flakes sparkling as they fall

They glisten in the moonlight

A white blanket covering all

Spring and summer memories

Recall Mother Nature at her best

But the beauty found in winter

Is in her serenity when she rests

I like this piece, you captured the neutral coldness winter can have very well in the first stanza. The way everything freezes where it is, stops until heat, life, comes again. It further helps the second stanza, a gentle caress where a rebuking strike was expected, seeming that much softer for it. There is beauty in the colder months, a crystalline aspect that is as delicate as it is resilient. Well done.

Thank you John for your kind review. The turning of the seasons culminating in a soft quiet winter, resonates with the waning of life...and acceptance thereof.
