There was a time

There was a time

A Poem by Patrick Wilson

There was a time…
…I answered at One AM,
Seconds shuffling by on leaden feet
As you nailed your lover to his cross.
Each blow ringing in my head.

There was a time…
…Longed to feel your passion,
Burning away every thought.
To taste your sweet kisses,
Nectar of my soul.

There was a time…
…I held you trembling in my embrace,
A frightened child
Seeking shelter from the world’s storms,
Tossed about by the wind.

There was a time…
…I held your hand tightly, afraid to let go.
‘Lest I loose you to the storms of your past,
Swept away by the tides of memories.

There was a time…
...You made me feel alive.
Astride a mountain,
Standing ten feet tall.
The world at my feet.

There was a time…
…You meant everything to me.

Now is the time…
…I mean nothing to you.

very sad, but very well constructed. I love it!

The juxtaposition of the content works well in this piece, which although conforming to a pattern manages to read in quite a stream of consciousness way.
