Our Little Angel

Our Little Angel

A Poem by HaleythePoet
"

This is a depressing yet uplifting poem so beware. It is both a story and a poem. I have never done something like this so bear with me.

"
The breeze from the window gently lifted the woman's hair off of her shoulders
As she rocked slowly in the rocking chair
Her hands slowly slid up and down her protruding stomach
Feeling little kicks here and there.
Her fiance came and smiled at her asking if she was doing okay
"I'm fine," she replied, and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips.
The man looked at her with genuine love and then gave her stomach a kiss.
"I'll be right back," he said, and then went to the kitchen to get her a glass of water.
The woman stood to look out the window, then felt a ripping pain go through her body
Putting her hand on the window and the other on her stomach, she let out a scream
Feeling something wet between her legs, she broke out into a cold sweat.
Something was wrong, she couldn't breathe, she couldn't stand
The man hearing the scream, dropped the glass and ran to his fiance lifting her head
"No!" he screamed, then called an ambulance.
Before the ambulance got there, he gave her CPR and wrapped her in a blanket.
When the medics got them to the hospital, they put her on a stretcher and wheeled her down a white hall
With the man holding her hand, never letting go.
A few minutes later, the woman's eyes were open, and they told her to push
Letting out another scream, she pushed again squeezing the man's hand hard.
"It's a baby girl," said the doctor, and showed them the baby.
The woman looked at the girl, then at the husband, and her heart monitor gave one steady line
The doctors pushed the man out of the room, with him yelling in detest
Seconds went by
Minutes
Half an hour
A nurse came out holding the bright baby girl, and handed her to the man
"Where is my fiance..." he asked.
The nurse lowered her head and shook it slowly back and forth.
The man buried his face against the baby's blanket that he held in his arms
And let out a choked sob
But after a few minutes he looked at the baby girl
And saw his fiance's eyes
The nurse looked at him, "What do you want to name her?"
"Evelyn...after my fiance."

I'm going to edit this later because I'm not quite satisfied with it. It was a spur of the moment story.

Seemed like the "beginning" of a story... rather than a standalone one. Are you thinking of "growing" it into more?

"detest"?

This is a fine piece of prose poetry. Its like a story within a story, yet there is so much emotion in it, and tenderness. Well done.

A very sad story. I like the set-up of the story. The accident and then the birth of a child. I like his reaction to the baby. Gave him some home with his love eyes and face. Thank you for sharing the excellent story.
