Father's Love

You should have come seen me when I was on death's door

I mean, I am your first-born

I don't know what I had expected 

I had always been neglected

Did you even ever question if I was okay?

Or did you just choose to look the other way?

Did you think I wouldn't notice

When you made that life altering choice

When you decided to shut me out

And went an entirely new route

No more Christmas or birthdays

I guess you decided to part ways

But the other five 

I suppose they still have your pride

I hope you're happy with the decisions you have made 

And the price you had to pay

You not only lost your first-born daughter

but you were never around to hear my childhood laughter

I really hope this makes you feel like scum

Because my feelings for you have fallen numb

I'm so over the father I never had

I don't claim you as a person or a dad

I can only imagine the hurt you must feel. I see through this poem and the words portrayed here. I am not good when come to describing poems anymore. even though I have written a few myself. But not lately i more into novels.

I can't even imagine the hurt and pain this has caused you. In so sorry he did that to you! You know you did nothing wrong! I'm sure he doesn't even know how this has affected your life. I believe that one day we will all have to answer to God. Writing is good to get your feelings out. Take care!

Im curious. Why no birthdays or Christmas? That seems so random. . I can relate so well. I had 5 others as well. I'm sorry about the content and injustice here. That's aweful.

Could it be that you were the oldest? Just an idea. My older sister was the oldest and had to be similar to a sub parent at times with such a large family. She responded by getting married at 18 years old. Lol

Well that was the only time he was ever around was on birthdays or christmas so I guess it seemed right to me. It is a bit random now that I think about it though thank you for your comment.

I guess I was part of the other 5 in my case. I was lucky. My older sister felt this way and is still angry.

Anonymously Perfect - Whoa! Now there's a daddy indictment just short of patricide if ever there was one. I've known a few dads like that and they deserve the wrath of each sibling treated with such disregard. Glad you wrote it. Namyh
