Soldier At Home

Soldier At Home

A Poem by Havatara
"

This is not about a military man, but it's about my Grandpa, who can be like one at times =)

"

When I watch you,

loving, caring,

giving Grandma her eye drops and

taking your grandkids to the ball game.

Every birth, every death,

and every family reunion,

you’re watching from

the frost covered windows.

Watching as we drive away.

When I watch you

working to support the ones you love

even though your body deteriorates.

You’re always there, whether it’s

at court or at home,

in sickness and in health.

A papa bear making sure

your baby bear has his own bed.

You’re a soldier at home

and for you

I stand up.

Author's Note

In my English class, we read a poem called "Miss Rosie" by Lucille Clifton (sp?). It starts with "When I watch you" and ends with "I stand up," and we had to write a poem with that as our starting and ending lines.
