Raspberry Tea

Raspberry Tea

A Poem by Hayley
"

Inspiration partially owed to e.e. cumming's The Cambridge Ladies. Just an experiment, really.

"

My throat is a pot of tea

Boiled black like raspberry

With all the sweetness of a sunday

(Floating leaves floating ashes)

Sipping in their feathered hats

The church ladies never felt the cold

Flighting at a misgiving’s call

Carrying only their empty cups

(Little cakes and delicate gloves

 For delicate situations)

Yet when my spoon clanged

They reeled like their candied laughs

“Pour me another”

And I stained their pearls

I love this! As I'm reading it I feel like one of those fancy rich ladies just sitting around company drinking tea. Nicely done.

I like that, its kind of thought-provoking with great imagery of the little old ladies in their lacy white caps and frilly dresses.

I prefer the new style to the old, not to say that this doesn't have a bit of the Victorian era trapped in it.

brackets, quotation marks, presentation + originality. Me likes you Haley!
