Heatwave

       

       

 

Heatwave

I can’t catch cool verbs

summer is groaning 

white hot   

                                missing Autumn's 

 cool carpets of spongy 

walking places

I frown at the sun's 

 boldened beams boil bodies 

  moonboots dragging

on sand dunes lunar landscape

cuttlefish lie petrified 

  dry white bones.

I can feel your longing for Autumn in this lovely poem Helen, after the heat of a long, hot and drawn out summer. I agree, the onset of autumn with all her resplendence is something to look forward to. I can't concentrate in the heat and can understand you not catching cool verbs either. Beautiful poem, a delight for the reader, full of imagery and rich language.
