A Play of a Family

A Play of a Family

A Poem by Hidden_identity

Enter stage left
a family of three
a mother,a father,
and a little baby girl

Look at them smile
Look at them laugh
swooning over the new member
of this perfect family

Scene

Enter stage right
a tired husband
after a day of tedious work
ignoring his wife and his child

Now look at the mother
with circles under her eyes
and her hair a mess
trying to calm a whining infant

Scene

Enter now
a six year old child
arriving home from her first day of school
with a smile painted on her face

But wait
there's something wrong
Her parents are facing each other
silently screaming

The mother,
she throws a ring down
and storms out,
leaving stage left

Scene

The girl is playing and waiting,
the mother, she looks agitated
The father walks in, with another woman
attached to his arm

The once happy couple glare at each other
the girl, she barely notices
she runs and hugs her father
and leaved gleefully with him for the afternoon

Scene

Enter the mother and the daughter
so many years have past
She's in high school now
all grown up

They're fighting
about the meeting with the principal
she had broken another rule
but what else is new?

Scene

They're both crying
The daughter, she's pregnant
She's confused and scared and lonely
She's only 16

Her mom hold hers
and tells her everything will be ok
but will it?
If only they knew...

Scene

Screaming and the slamming of doors
They're fighting again,
like they do most of the time now
She's planning on leaving

She doesn't know where she'll go
She's not staying at the place she once called home
Not with her mother
Only her and the baby alone together

Scene

She doesn't come around anymore
Not for Christmas
or her own mom's birthday
No one comes to see this lonely mother

Scene

Enter center stage
nobody
Not such a perfect family
anymore

Upon a stage this would indeed present a powerful statement of how life can change drastically.
