A Nursery Crime...Georgie Porgie

A Nursery Crime...Georgie Porgie

A Poem by Gee
"

Olde English nursery rhyme updated

"
Georgie Porgie pudding and pie
kissed the girls and made them cry,
the police were called, statements sought,
a danger deemed, he must be caught.

Within the hour he was found
roughly cuffed, punched to the ground,
put in a car, thrown in a cell,
denied a brief so he couldn't tell.

Confused and with a low IQ
Georgie knew what he would do,
and when they opened up his door
he lay there dead upon the floor.

Now the police themselves 'midst public fury,
will face a trial and a twelve man jury.

Georgie's all over the news now. Like he never was in life. How awful is it that it takes a tragedy like this for today's society to take notice. There will be interviews now on Good Morning Britain with all kinds of experts who really know nothing and everyone will have an opinion on poor Georgie's state of mind.
Personally I am not a great fan of puddings such as the one tagged exhibit A and certainly not one's that have had a thumb in them. Someone from food hygene will cop for it now. And quite right too. Perhaps poor Georgie's tragic death will have done some good after all. Signed Outraged Pie eater Wigan.

Wow, I'll say it's updated! I loved the original and love this one, too. And as tradition dictates, it contains a good helping of pathos.

New and improved for the world we live in today. A much more cynical world to the carefree days of singing this in the playground, which would surely be banned now under at least 23 decrees of the human rights act. Bloody spoilsports. :)

Aye, life was easier when we were but bairns laddie. Cheers Nemo
If kissing girls and making them cry were offenses deserving of prosecution, I would, even now, be stagnating in some decidedly unpleasant lock-up.
Your georgie-porgie rendition makes this vintage nursery rhyme meaningful, relevant and darkly amusing.
Nice work, Gee!

Poor georgie, how bad was his breath that he made all the girls cry? Another masterful reworking Gee.

Thanks........
Whimsical, clinical and cynical. A great combination that works wonderfully. I also read it aloud and thought the rhythm worked perfectly for the content.

Cheers,appreciate your kind words
Very clever! Good rhyming.

I just wish the syllable count stayed the same till the end. The last two lines were longer than the rest of the poem and it slowed down the fun.

The stressed/unstressed syllables of the first two lines:
GEORgie PORgie PUDding and Pie
KISSED the GIRLS and MADE them CRY
should have continued throughout the poem.
The third line, for example, is:
the polICE were called, STATEments SOUGHT
It throws off the rhythm of the poem.
I think if you reworked this, you'd have something really special.
