On A Balmy Summers Night

On A Balmy Summers Night

A Poem by Gee
"

Just simple words

"
Shooting stars 'cross ink black sky
the pallid moon looked on,
a breeze roused sleeping summer leaves
but briefly, then was gone.

A fox bark echoed, trailed away
through spinny and beyond,
nothing stirred, the lillies slept
atop the night stilled pond.

'cross barleyed acres all at peace
through farmyard ever on,
silence played on balmy night
a symphony an' song.

'Til sunrise lit the eastern sky,
then man stirred, woke again,
serenaded soft to 'nother day
by bird calls sweet refrain.

How beautiful this life we live
what wonders to behold,
more beauty found in nature's gifts
than platinum and gold

Yup it all fits together nicely Gee and is a flowing, well crafted, eloquent poem. Might I suggest the final line as 'than plat'num or gold.' In saying that I have only read it in and not checked the metre.

My Pleasure.
The use of vocabulary in this piece is fantastic. The imagery was clear, the form, crisp.
Such an enjoyable read.

The 3rd and 4th stanzas are definitely my favorite, I love the flow, almost makes you feel as drowsy as a warm summer night would do. Fantastic poem!

An eloquently penned, image filled nature poem and indeed, day or night, there's much to behold and savour within the finely woven tapestry of Mother Nature!

Cheers Tom...
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I am in awe of someone who can zip off a lovely flowing balanced ballad like this, with perfect rhythm & rhyme, while toodling off to work?!?!?! WOW! I don't remember feeling this creative in 30+ years of toodling off to do technical writing for a living, which I loved. Anyhow, now you're sparking my own inclinations. I love nature & this gives me a new idea of writing about it . . . love your detailed imagery & a feeling of gentle immersing in mainly description . . . just placing the reader in this place so we can see/feel/hear/touch/experience it, too! Very nice journey, my friend.

Thanks. Most of my poems are written in the hour before going of to manage 40-50 moaning carpenters,.. read more

Now I'm even more in awe. Having to go off & deal with whiney people would certainly squelch my mood.. read more
This is very vivid. I like how you can view things from a step back. We're all so focused on ourselves these days. Well written

Your simple words were a delight to my Soul. I think the fourth stanza was, indeed, necessary. We do, sometimes, have to mention the things that are not quite so natural. Once, when I asked my doctor if the medicine he was giving me was 'natural,' he rather crossly replied, 'all the elements are natural'!!!
