Etched In Stone

Etched In Stone

A Poem by Gee
"

An oldie found and re posted

"
And with their first breath
etched the first date,
the hyphen is then their life led,
be it days, be it weeks,
many decades or more,
'til a full stop declares
" They are dead "

You are welcome dear friend.
Beautifully described. Birth is merely a beginning of the end.

Thank you Ariya
I love to go to old graveyards, pull weeds and look at tombstones. I've found some very interesting epitaphs. I enjoyed the read.

Thank you..
Wonderfully, sadly true./ However, respectful addenum which you probably know: added at his request by Spike Milligan.. 'I told them i was ill.' Yes, irreverent but then humour tops the bill even in tombstones.

Sad creature though i am, living in a county filled to the brim with ancient churches.. i have with and without company, wandered graveyards, sometimes in the drear and at other times in bright sunshine, deciphering where possible, names, dates and epitaphs. A treaured history laid to rest in varying styles of tombs and wording. There is a sadness, yes.. but isnt it sadder still if people beware such places.

Sorry - too much. But your wordsare truly appreciated for style, the poem itself understood in my personal way.. the result is precious sad, Gee

Thank s Emma, simple words which I guess ring true. Hope you are well
You can write your story in erasable graphite on paper, or with force, wielding a chisel, pounding stone. You would think the story would be the same on different canvas.

But effort makes all the difference. Effort makes the story. Enjoyed your poem. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers Joe...
There's a cemetery I walk through and I see the same graves. One family is buried in the same plot. The death dates are all the same.

Glad you found this, interesting to read and think about.
