A Calico Drifter

A Calico Drifter

A Poem by Relic

Image result for cat at night

H
er silky mixed form
stalks the garden on evenings
with tiny glowing emerald eyes.

Cautious but confident,
she'll sleuth and slink,
hide and think
and hardly blink.

She reigns over a kingdom
of rose bush hideouts,
garden rock parapets,
and fortified fences
(that could use a coat of paint).

Mice have no defenses.
Enemies no chance.

As a warrior, she's gallant
with a wild war cry
that warns opponents;
awakening neighbors near and far.

She's ready to leap
like a bullet across the lawn
when the signal for food has finally come.

Ever playful, ever cuddly...
someone's Calico Queen...
Long may she reign.

I've been told a calico cat is normally female. :D

Very enjoyable. I love the words and the wonderful illustration. Conjures strong imagery and sets a mood of nocturnal adventure for this special cat. Reminds me of "Prissy", a cat I once owned.

Thanks for stopping by Sam, glad you liked it. :)
This is truly the cat's meow.Wonderful description of a backyard eden, from a cats wily eye.Imagry is everything and I felt it flowing as I pounced along.Very nice flow right down to the hiccup that needs paint.

Thanks workscot. :)
I really really REALLY like this poem. The beauty mixed with the charm of that bit about the fence needing a coat of paint... the IMAGERY... this poem just makes me so happy. It's so good that I sent a screenshot to a friend of mine. He liked it too.

Oh wow.
Reign of the Calico cat was portrayed beautifully. My mind drifted to the image you have selected. And yes, it's beautiful how you have depicted it.
Enjoyed reading it.

Oh Relic, this is a beautifully painted piece of writing. Your words took me by the hand and led me through the garden where The Calico Queen reigns!

Your words along with the picture that you've selected to enhance this piece are exquisite ~ thanks for sharing them with us.

Thank you Gayle. :)
This was lighthearted to me. I have a calico and they are fierce, playful creatures. I love the lines "He's ready to spring/like a bullet on the lawn". Anyone who has had a cat will know exactly what this is, haha. Wonderfully done.
