Your mood and reviews.

Your mood and reviews.

Just something I noticed in myself.

So there I was, sitting at my laptop, opened to WC, and my eyes started scanning poems to read. I wasn't in a terrible mood, but I wasn't in a great mood either. I read one poem and thought...why bother posting if you can't even write. Then another...yeah, that was okay.

Then I read a poem I thought I had never read before. The poem was good, but I thought to myself...there is nothing here I haven't already heard before. It's the Same old story told in a different way. I found myself frustrated with the lack of originality in what I had read. (all the while knowing I couldn't have done any better).

Should I review the poem and find a nice way to point out my thoughts without being mean? Or should I forget it?

Then, as I scanned down to the review box I discovered a surprise. I had already reviewed the poem. In my review, I pointed out how well it was written and how wise the writer was. I believe I even mentioned that more people should read it. I Ended the review with my usual..." great job."

What a difference. It appeared my previous thoughts were in a whole different ballpark. I was more cheerful, more friendly and more willing to point out the great details I had read.

What changed? My mood.

Lots of times when things aren't going our way or we don't like how we may have acted in some instances, sometimes we find fault in others. Our irritation directs our thoughts into a one-track mind. As a result, nothing is right. People become idiots, or we feel as though we have no control over our circumstances. So, we criticise...or...we write bad reviews.

So, it seems to me, if you're anxious to point out peoples faults, it may be your mood that's in charge and not you.

Every once in a while, I see a brazen review, but thankfully not often. So if you're in a bad mood, maybe it would be best to take a deep breath and find some peace before you interact with anyone. If a poem is bad and you know it, that's one thing. But if you feel as though you're offended in any way...it's time to take a break and come back later.

Boy I hope I didn't get one of those "Usual" Good Jobs..LOL... .. You are so easy to read.. I feel as if I am reading ME !!! ....I think you are right, if I am in a previous bad mood, I tend to be more critical (depending on who I am commenting on)... Ha! ..I keep it sweet and short, if I am not impressed, or moved in any way, or if I haven't a clue what the Poet/Author is talking about..lol... Some are going to be hurt by ANYTHING you say /or don't say..lol..
As someone wrote below... thanks for the great reflective write.... caused me to do a little introspection !!! ....

You are welcome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone writes and reads for a different reason, whether it is catharsis or entertainment.
All the points you have raised are valid, for, if the piece you are reading heightens your particular mood, you will see it in a favourable light, and review it accordingly.
I like to appreciate, but prefer not to give unfavourable critiques, as I may have not have correctly interpreted the motives or analogies of the writer.
Thanks for your thought provoking article..

Thanks for reading Norman. :)
I appreciate your thoughts very much here. One should take special care as writers are sensitive about their work. I feel one should only review work that one can understand and avoid reviewing just for the sake of it which is sometimes as hurtful as a negative comment. I try to add my personal touch to every feedback I give even if that means I review only a few poems a day. Thanks for the interesting read. :)

You are most welcome. Its a very thoughtful write-up.
Ahh you know you've hit the nail here in my opinion. I've noticed that in myself too though I tend to not review if my mood ain't that good at the time but do come back to it later. I think I know the kind of brazen reviews you pointed out here and that should be the option.
Good reflective write, Tim. Helped me reflect too and so glad to know I'm not the only going through moody review swings haha :P

There must be... you're welcome :)
This is my troubles here every day. I read so many boring poems or poems good in just half way. I know myself my poems are not great neither. But where is this great poems are? Also I cannot see age of poet or writer. I think is not too good idea to give harsh review somebody who is 14 or 16 age. I always try to be honest but also point out good part of poems. What can make better and what cannot. For example here in your writing I like that form and structure of letters. Also you make reader to wonder . Should I give review or not. Good you make self reflection for all of us. I think people who are here really for writing. Experienced this every day. Keep raise this kind of questions here cause they are very important here.

''What changed? My mood.''
So True.
We deal situations by the mood we wear. It's so bad. Don't know why always our 'emotions' drive us?
But what you wrote was something that says the reality, which travels in every corner of the world where a person breathes. :)
