A Story by Relic
"

Hmm?

"

"It's coming," they say.
"The signs are all around us."
"Like a thief in the night."
"Ask for forgiveness while you can."

"Prepare now," they warn.
"Hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes.
"Get ready! Get ready!

Yet, even when the day comes and goes,
I'm still stuck paying bills.

It turns out, long before I walked the earth,
convergence of calamities came about
making the end of life seem plausible.
And for the unlucky in their path, it was.

But, nothing has changed.
There have always been disasters.
There always will be.

And between good days, life will still be cruel,
people will still die, and injustice will still spread.

So thanks for the warnings of doom.
But life goes on.
And for the unfortunate few who can't face another day of torment from life's trials...
that's the problem.

"And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of 12 stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth."

The end of the world will come after you leave this earth, hopefully, from old age. :)

I believe doomsayers are just escapists. Indeed, paying bills and other aspects of routine life must seem more formidable to surmount than an apocalypse or such. As for human kind, the suffering, as you rightly said, never seems to end. I appreciate your viewpoint so nicely worded here.

Thank you Gee. :)
I'll always be the one who sees the glass as half full. It's a scary thought to perceive, but like you, I'm hopeful it will be my old age delivering me from this earth.

Good to read you, Tim!

I hope so too Kelly. Thanks. :)
You know, people always talk about how people die everyday and life is still going to be a pain to endure, but what about the fact that people are always born? Life comes into this world as quickly as it is taken away. People laugh and cry all the same. That's worth the hope to trek forward. ^ ^

In specific with this prophecy, I don't know how to feel about it. I try not to trust what other people say, so I think these hurricanes are prevalent because of the fact that we are currently in "hurricane season". But, who knows. God only knows what's in store for us, and I have a feeling the world isn't going to end in a couple of days.

I really loved this! Great job!

Thank you Sapientiam for a thoughtful review. In the year 1900, somewhere around 12,000 people died .. read more

A wild ride in these words. I believe like the great writer once said. The world will not end with a bang. The world will end with a whisper. The world is going mad. I pray wisdom and logic takes over ASAP. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome my friend.
We were just talking about this prophesy at work. I feel the same as you, that life will go on, and interest will still be accrued. Like the earthquake in Mexico City, I heard it happened on the exact same date in the exact same city 32 years ago. Clearly the world did not end then. Thanks for the share!
