I will plant daffodils here if you want.

I will plant daffodils here if you want.

I'll plant these daffodils here by your grave.
And when they've grown
and blossomed with life;
when sunlight from a penny-colored sun
feeds them,
I'll see them exist,
cheerful in yellow smiles and stiff collars.

But I'll feel no delight
nor contentment.
Nor will I happily float away as fulfilled
as a hummingbird or bee.

I'll plod away instead,
never expecting messages from the dead,
while holding a perpetual resentment at God
for keeping resurrection to himself.

You are most welcome.
This was heartbreaking. I shed a few tears while I read the last stanza. It was lovely, truly lovely to read.

Thanks so much for reading.
No, it is a horrible thing, death, isn't it? You would see people die, and then see yourself die, your last moments either alone, or with people, sparks of shock everywhere. It's horrible, and this poem is so relatable to, its rather eerie in a way. I've never been to somebody's grave, but I had the opportunity to, but my mother turned it down when my great aunt, Diana, died. in mid 2010s. It was so sad, me and my sister couldn't stop thinking about her, we were terrified. If this is a true story, then I feel so sorry for you, I hope you will overcome this, even though the chances are unlikely. 'Til this day, do I remember Diana? Yes, but do I remember her face? With minor details, yes, but those minor memories of her appearance sink away from my mind, forgotten and replaced with some new memories, unfortunately. The times we had, years before she died, were rather memorable and still are.

Bittersweet, this one. A conundrum...be happy with the birth of those heavenly flowers or sad at the death of a loved one...better to walk away instead. Beautifully told in simple words. Great writing!

It's my pleasure, always.
One of the best poems I've read lately. This is so nicely constructed to tell a complete story in a simple way, with so much feeling & honesty. I love the underlying resentment from the start, even tho the narrator is doing the right thing, etc. Then when you get to the real truth of the matter in the last 2 stanzas, I love the way it's not watered down at all. Gracefully stated but also blunt. I love the perfect reproach toward God, which is not offensive, but the way many of us feel sometimes (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You worded this so f*****g perfectly. I've resented who ever is upstairs many times for this. So much work goes in to a soul, only for it to be ripped away and kept in hiding.

Thanks for sharing.
So sadly beautiful or the words and visual you’ve shared here Relic. Placading ones last wishes should leave us filled with satisfaction but yet its human nature to resent the fact that God had been resurrected but our loved ones are forever gone. This is a sad, well worded poem you have shared here. Peace be with you Relic. Angelheart
