"No Commitment"

"No Commitment"

A Poem by I Am THE LADY POET

         "NO COMMITMENT"

You say you want to be with me forever

Yet you refuse to take that next step

You say it hasn't been long enough

but that is not a problem when we are in the bed

I've been washing your clothes and cooking

for you, basically wev'e been playing house

Am I just good enough for you to lay and play with

But not good enough to be your wife?

Well I'm giving you and altimatum

Either you put a ring on my finger

Or you can leave

There is someone out there who

would appreciate me

And this you can believe

You say you love me and respect me

But your actions shows something different

When I talk about getting married

You can't seem to get with it

Well I can say that I do have regrets

For listening to all of the lies you told

Saying that you want to marry me and be with forever

Is basically what you sold

You wanted to get in and now your here getting all my love

Why would you marry me when all of your needs are being taken care of

But not anymore because I am leaving you today

I can do better then this because I am too much of a lady.

To allow a man to treat me with such disrespect and dishonor

If you want to be with me like you said you would place a ring on my finger

But since you have not been a real man

then I have to move on

Maybe you realize what you had

When I am gone

Aside from a few spelling and syntactical errors, the poem is nicely written. It speaks to a woman trusting but not verifying, of having made the committment, but it not being reciprocated, of waking up ready to move on.

Reads like a dear John letter. You tell 'em girl. Your writing is clear and to the point. Your flow is strong.
Your poem made me laugh, an older woman told me when I was a young girl, why buy the cow when you can get the milk free. Your words about him living with you but not wanting to marry, made me think of that. My daughters hated it when I told them that. Needless to say they gave away the milk free on occasion.

Nice write.
