A Lost Virtue

Benevolence is seldom witnessed in this age

Egotistical traits have become the rage

Narcissistic tendency crippling relationships

Echoes disaster from fallen civilizations

Violence abounds devouring our very souls

Organizations kill for their worshiped deity

Ludicrous “I say” is mankind these days

Endless hatred no morals and greed

Neglected are the virtues of yesterday

Evanescent “I fear” Benevolence strays

The repetitious horror you're talking about could still be its own solution. These repetitions are backwards looking. But if they look back at the notions of the past you want to rescue, then they can still rebuild. The artist Tacita Dean does this well with 'Bubble House'.

This is a great poem. I like the way it captures emotions giving me no option but to feel involved. The line " Violence abounds devouring our very souls" is very rich for pondering. Good rhythm too. Congrats!
