What does it take to be hero?

Based on the book Hero-Type by Barry Lyga.

 Is being a hero

Saving someone's life?

Despite why you did it.

Despite why you were there.

Or is being a hero

Daring to defy

What everyone else stand for.

Because you don't believe it.

Despite what people think.

Is being a hero possibly

Screwing everyone else's thoughts,

And saying what you believe.

Even if everyone hates you for it.

Is being a hero,

Being different?

Being strong?

Being honest?

Is being a hero,

Giving something up,

Even if you don't want to?

Because you know it's for the best,

Or is being a hero

Being true?

Being kind?

Being forgiving?

Or is being a hero,

Being yourself?

It doesn't suck! It shows reality, and thought process. Never put down your work, plenty of people will be happy to do that for you...i'm however not one of those people. I cheer for your writing and applaud it! Keep it up!

Aw, I don't think this sucks. Give yourself a bit more credit! Even if this poem may not be your best, it's your first time writing with this new non-rhyming, free verse style. You did a really good job with it, in my opinion. I like all the different possibilities for a definition of the term 'hero' you suggest in this piece. Very well thought-out. Nicely structured, although it could use a little work with evening out the lines and such. Overall, very good piece! I enjoyed it!

HEY, it doesn't suck it is just a different style. I'll offer some criticism to make it less suckish - layout - at the moment it is a chunk of text although with very few words on each line but I think it would flow much better and read easier in a couple of stanzas, well done though.

It does not suck. I enjoyed it very much. I would add one more line: are there even such things as heroes? Do they really exist. It does make one wonder, are there everyday real heroes out there and we just dont see or acknowledge them. Yes.
Another good piece of writing ... dont put yourself down about this...

Stop saying it sucks...it does not suck!!!! I really really like this and I have kind of always wondered the same thing. I think being yourself does make you a hero...I mean after all even those that are now famous were once just average people. Average people make a difference every day even if they don't know it that's truly what I believe. Amazing write with a great question...
