Somewhere

Somewhere

A Poem by Abhra

Let some parts be left behind

So that they may sift

and form an open wound.

Know that

some things are left behind in transit

from one tongue to another

(as from Hebrew to Yiddish)

So that no matter how hard you try

Some things can no longer be said

Leave the past behind,

With the aging folk of scattered breaths,

to wishes and

wrap things with regret

Let some parts become unknown

so that you discover

that love can travel light;

stitch your eyelids

bring you to the realm of whispers

and leave you in its folds,

with only a name.

Catch the soft groans of old boats

Leave them to the mid-sea

Far from the shore

With their skin, salt and oars

So that they may find

the Azaan of seas.

i'm so glad you've returned with that fine tuned sense of yours...the first line is a more quiet opening to Beethoven's Fifth, but sturdy with portent, an announcement that stands alone...the rest is reminder of how and when and why...all echo of the stunning truth of it...
