New Primitives

New Primitives

A Poem by Mark
"

I was driving along, and The Cult came on the radio with the song "Fire Woman". Somehow my brain saw the images in the poem.

"
Jonus brings the starter
Freya brings the wood.
We all bring desire
shouting like we should.
First we shed our clothes
then put leather 'round our loins.
To seperate us from those
who use gas, phones, and coins.

Josie has brought the water
to give head and bellies fire
Jason makes the slaughter
placing meat upon the pyre.

We laugh out loud and drink
as the flames sizzle fat
We all feel, instead of think
and night discourages chat.

The sparks fly toward the stars
the smoke carries them aloft
Toward Venus and toward Mars
with them our souls will waft.

The liquid heat is burning
each heart and mind and soul
We dance together churning
becoming parts of a whole.

we dance to forget the meaning
of electric bricks and glass
We replace it with the feeling
of trampled earth and grass.

and when our moon is fading
and the sun, again, comes back
We sleep in the tree's shading
and our souls no longer lack.

Tomorrow we'll drop leather
for ties, and shoes, and cotton
We won't mind about the weather
but our dance won't be forgotten.

Ah! Music is like my life! I love it, I listen to it wherever I go, I never leave the house without my iPod or my phone. I sit and write and listen to music, and I would love to be a singer - I pretend I can sing - and have a few recordings but too shy to put them on SoundCloud. Ha. This is an awesome write, Son. Mummy loved it.

Hahaha, look on Billy Moon then! Or Dummy Van, hahaha!!!
I have been for most of my life a musician wannabe. I also have music going most of the time and am often inspired by songs. Just not on this level, unfortunately. I love the story in this. The thought of abandoning oneself to nature for a night - detoxing from the sterile corporate grind and refreshing our souls. Well penned.

Thanks TL. Music makes life better, like butter when cooking. :)
I am always listening to the radio while driving, and much of the time Pandora in the house while I write, do house work, etc. Music has a way of changing/uplifting the mood, and sometimes I also get these sensory experiences. Very nicely described with vivid detail...I get an almost "lucid dream" feeling from this one.

sounds like the perfect escape from the drudgery of every day. we all need a night like this to get back to our selves with no inhibition. great imagery.

Yes, I get cranky if I don't have a dose of nature once in awhile!! Thanks for reading.
A soul burning furnace, my gosh, such festive witchery!
Your descriptions are very effective, my finger tips are burning with heat as I write this comment! Quite a unique approach and subject matter.
