Loss and the Internet

Loss and the Internet

A Poem by Mark
"

The modern world offers many instant gratifications and ways to keep in touch. Sometimes it's a bit much.

"
I was fine, I was centered, balanced, no longer needing.
Today I saw your name,
and the ice that had replaced the hope, shattered.

Today I saw your name,
and realized that it was still too late.
and still, the numbing cold gave way
and the lacking emptiness ached again.

The Hope, the desire... had all leaked away from this cracked heart and soul,
replaced with the ice of self-sufficiency frozen in loneliness.
But today I saw your name.

Done with the chances that were my madness,
I must again hide the loneliness
and hope the only hope that I have left;
that I won't see your name.

Partly how I feel when someone or something mentions my dead husbands name. How does any one hide loneliness. Valentine

The internet can be both a blessing and a curse, I think...it tends to shrink the world somewhat and all we knew is sometimes only a click away...nothing is hidden from the moment our fingers touch the keypad...sigh...

Mark, you are so right when you say sometimes it's a bit much. The world today is like a sensory overload from which there seems no escape; and that's before we even consider the unseen undercurrent of the all pervading internet and all those little gnomes hidden away in dark corners scrutinising and monitoring our every move.

Big brother is here with a vengeance and has no care that sometimes things are best left only to memory.

Beccy.

Cannot hide on the internet. A wide open world my friend.
"Done with the chances that were my madness,
I must again hide the loneliness
and hope the only hope that I have left;
that I won't see your name."
Some faces and names can take us back to forgotten and hidden places. Thank you Mark for sharing your outstanding poetry.

Its like being shocked back in time and all the feelings rush back without warning. Sad poem and written well.

Thank you for reading
Mark, this is beautiful and true! I can relate to so much of this poem- we work so hard to move on after heartbreak, we think we're good, and then bam! we see a name, smell a flower, hear a once was favorite song and the "emptiness ached again." And the only hope we have left is "I won't see your name." Beautiful write, words chosen carefully and well, flow is excellent.

Thank you Mary. It is a little shock to be affected after so much time has passed.
I do feel this one, Mark. Love goes nowhere … hides a bit … but goes nowhere. Fine piece.
