Caught in the Middle

Caught in the Middle

A Poem by Lori Carlson

Regardless of how this plays out
she came between you and I;
first by invitation
then by obsession -
how does it feel to have someone
as obsessed after you as you are after me?

You must have know her long before I left
since it took but a week to move her in,
I was about to renew our marriage
until you told me about her,
so like me, you said.
No one is like me; I am unique.

After a torrential few weeks
you sent her packing back home,
then came begging me to come back,
but even that wasn't to last;
you took her back again.
Do you know how devastated I was?

A week later, she attacked you
and again, you sent her packing.
And once more you begged me to come back:
I should have said no, let you wallow
in your own self-pity and turmoil.
Unable to hold a grudge, I came home.

Forgiveness took a while,
trust is taking even longer,
and just when I thought I could trust,
you dropped a bombshell:
You were talking to her again online.
Do you expect me to not be angry?

You've used up all your chances.
It's time for me to move on,
if not physically right now,
then emotionally and mentally.
But there will come a day
When I am gone forever.

The roaming heart never satisfied by the love they possess; this piece makes you feel used…Melancholy for sure, that love that hold us to them, but their heart that never hold to you…

Great Write Lori!

great thematic elements - love, trust, forgiveness, betrayal... excellent take on the challenge!

This poem is so accessible and real. Anyone who has been in a similar love triangle would immediately empathize with the speaker's turmoil.
