A Letter To My First Love

A Letter To My First Love

A Poem by Lori Carlson
"

~for Jim K.~

"
There is so much I want to tell you,
like how your love turned a scared young girl
into a confident young woman,
how even now, thirty-five years later,
you are still the only man I've ever loved.
That is the effect you had on me.
You taught me unselfish love,
even when your own love of me was selfish;
you taught me to hold on, never let go
and even now I cannot let you go.
You showed me beauty through your paintings,
inspired me to give it a go
to sketch and paint the world in all its grandeur.
What I wouldn't give to turn back time,
to stand my ground and tell you No, I won't go
when you told me to leave;
we would be married to this day,
thirty-five years of bliss instead of regret.

A beautiful poem with so much wisdom.
"you taught me to hold on, never let go
and even now I cannot let you go."
I believe who hold tighter in hard times. Will be rewarded with a real love that will never end. Thank you for the beautiful poem of love and happiness.

This is heartfelt and powerfully simplistic. I was afraid it was going to be another flat love poem, but it wasn't! Well done, especially with the ending.

"affect" --> "effect"
