Self-Discovery

Self-Discovery

A Poem by Iris Anahi Brumfield
"

Sometimes life forces us to reevaluate who we are. The lessons did not come easy, but I am very happy with what I have discovered.

"
Self-Discovery

All my life I have been confused
Always looking for who I really was
I knew I was not what others told
I knew I was not what I felt
So, who was I?

I have worked hard to create a self
Knowledge and understanding became my creed
“Accept me. I am worth it”, was my silent plead.
The desire to be someone was an empty shell
So, who was I?

I felt ashamed of my need for attention and company
I felt disgusted with each and every one of my insecurities
I felt flustered and angry at my ridiculous lack of identity
I felt such hate at my own pitifulness
So, who am I?

My beautiful self, bloomed at her own sweet time
But now I see that I had always been right there
To believe that I had any inherent value I did not dare
To finally meet me, has been an experience sublime
So, let me tell you who I am!

I am the fertile earth that nurtures possibilities
I am the light and warmth of a summer sunrise
I am the flame of passion, hungry for the spark of life
I am flow of water that cuts though all strife
I am the reincarnated breath of the old and wise

I had to close my eyes to the world,
So that I could see the spirit within me.

I am one with the Earth.
I am one with the Universe.
I am one with the Divine.
I am life in action.
I am me.
