Black Velvet

Black Velvet

A Poem by Isabel25

Tired of countless headcounts,

Even the sheep abandon me,

My pillowcase, a Pandora ’s Box,

Spews out faces once forgotten,

The wind hushes by, as if to caress,

But merely resonates in this void,

As the night flows like black velvet,

I gradually drown, in its cold embrace...

The first stanza was such a mind-tingler that I kept going back to it with more of my mental post-it notes with 'WOW!" scrawled on them.
You conveyed our dark "friend" so well here Annie - depression is a son-of-a-b***h.
Well penned my friend.
God Bless

well written...when the sheep abandon me and the night breezes begin to resonate i get up and help myself to a glass filled with milk and a healthy shot of homemade amaretto...it usually works...

A very inventive and descriptive way of talking about thoughts running wild and leaving the speaker void of their full full of a night rest. A great sensory detail that velvety feeling. :)

"My pillowcase, a Pandora ’s Box,
Spews out faces once forgotten,". Well in my case I see the same face.. and my mind just refuses to put something else in there. Fantastic choice of words..

I am both awed and confused looking at the third stanza. I see it as a ray of light, hope .. You think something would come and fix this.. Something which has all the answers.. You meet it only to find that it doesn't have what you are looking for.

I loved the exquisite wordplay here. Good write :)

Thank you Elliott :)
Words of a resigned and gentle sorrow, yet I smile, because it feels great to read your writing once again.
Long has been the wait to wander through the words of Isabel. Eloquently crafted, dear Annie.
