I'll leave the porch light on

I'll leave the porch light on

A Poem by Island Hippy

i saw a boy one day
his charm i loved best

he wore dirty boots
and tired blue jeans

his eyes smiled at me
i knew i loved him then

i know he really likes me
but i'm the girl he'll leave

come to my mercy seat
bring your wounded heart

i'll leave the porch-
light on just incase.

I enjoyed this poem. I liked the story told in the poetry and the ending. Good to be kind and leave the light on. A safe haven for us. Thank you Izzy for sharing your amazing poetry.

All of us need kindness and Mahalo Izzy.
How tender and evocative this poem is. "My mercy seat"- the place in our heart that always forgives unconditionally. Great reference and metaphor. The loves we always remember so exquisitely described-"his eyes smiled at me..I knew I loved him then". Selflessly, in hope, we "leave the porch-light on just incase." Perfect my ohana!

Mahalo my ohana always warm and generous. Much aloha to you
Succinct simplicity... (I know "succinct" is a word thrown around a bit much in reviews...) BUT, regardless... the simple style, deflection of uppercase enunciation from the "i's"... Short syllable use, and an almost child-like pattern of vocabulary... Makes this for a throw-back to the poems we made in elementary... Absolutely not a bad thing, and put a smile on my face... Was probably quite a fun write, hah... Charmingly penned...

Mahalo silente :) great comment & much appreciated
Wonderful reflection on what might have been.
I have a pair of tired old blue jeans. They're faded with a few holes in them, but I like them all the same, the same, I suppose, as your fondness for this boy, or not.

this reminds me of the interaction between me and my high school girlfriend---some what if's left, some regrets...some fond memories...her porch light was always on.

Mahalo for your comment Jacob.
Wistfullness taken to the nth degree. As wistful as a gossamer misty memory. Really good is inadequate.

Def a good perspective 😊
Several really expressive phrases in this somewhat whimsical sad piece where love is not so certain. The use of 'mercy seat' is interesting in its biblical connotations.
